Flat6Labs Jeddah Supports Saudi Innovation In Its Second Demo Day Event
Cairo, May 31st, 2014 – Flat6Labs announced today that it held its second Demo Day event in Jeddah in collaboration with Qotuf AlRiyadah. The Demo Day showcased an impressive line-up of six Saudi technology-enabled start-ups. The Demo Day provided the startups hosted by Flat6Labs Jeddah with the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a number of potential investors and business leaders.
The start-up businesses included a well-diversified group of Saudi entrepreneurs, whose offering and services includes the delivery of educational and career guidance programs, recruitment platforms, recycling and advertising solutions, localized gaming platforms, online cultural platforms and finally, cloud-based software solutions. The event was held under the auspices of Saudi Minister of Labor, H.E. Eng. Adel Fakieh.
In addition to the seed investment, technology perks and entrepreneurship-focused business training, Flat6Labs Jeddah provided more than 120 hours of startup training in various business disciplines through more than 20 mentors, who are accomplished Saudi businessmen and senior executives, with a varied and rich corporate background.
The Saudi graduates of the second cycle of Flat6Labs Jeddah included Aya Games, a mobile, social gaming studio that serves the Arab world with games tailored to the region’s language and culture. DDC is a startup which provides solutions that educate the public about their environment and utilizes recyclable waste from the source in order to simplify waste collection and direct it to the right recycling company. Ejadah Soft is on a mission to support Arab economies by providing a world-class software service to small and medium enterprises in all Arab countries. IRTH offers cultural exchange programs, joining leisure and knowledge-building, for the individual interested in historically, architecturally, or artistically significant and unique travel. Nujeed is the first Saudi online platform to bridge the gap between local private companies and employable Saudi talent through a matching service that maximizes employee retention. SmartAble resolves the stigmas surrounding educational counseling and guidance within Saudi Arabia and the region by ‘gamifying’ the high school and college education and guidance approach.
Highlighting the success of Flat6labs Jeddah, Ramez Mohamed CEO of Flat6Labs commented, “The latest cycle of Flat6Labs’ program in Jeddah affirmed our belief that entrepreneurship is about solving local problems by providing local solutions and it’s completely driven by the youth.” He added, “We are very pleased to actively take a part in driving the regional entrepreneurial scene with the collaboration of Qotuf AlRiyadah and out other partners across the MENA region.”
Flat6Labs Jeddah’s partner, Qotuf AlRiyadah supported the start-up’s participation in both regional and global entrepreneurship events, such as “Le Web” in Paris, ArabNet and more recently The MIT Enterprise Forum for the Pan Arab, which hosted over 4,000 start-ups and MENA Angels Investors Conference, both of which were held in Cairo and Bahrain respectively.
Flat6Labs Jeddah – which was launched in May 2013 in collaboration with Qotuf AlRiyadah and sponsored by corporate sponsors Arabian Cement and IKEA- is Flat6Labs’ second accelerator program in the MENA region following the success of its original program in Cairo, Egypt which was launched in 2011. Flat6Labs recently announced its collaboration TwoFour54 to launch its third regional accelerator program in Abu Dhabi in 2014.
