  • 16 Feb 2014 Flat6Labs Jeddah graduates its first 5 start-up companies.

    Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (Feb 10th, 2014) — Under the Patronage of Saudi Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Dr. Tawfiq Al Rabea, Flat6Labs Jeddah, founded by Qotuf AlRiyadah, held its First Demo Day event with representatives from founding sponsors Arabian Cement and Ghassan Alsulaiman Co. (IKEA Saudi Arabia), investors and mentors were in attendance. The purpose of this Demo Day is for Flat6Labs Jeddah startups from the first cycle to present their ideas to an array of investors, entrepreneurs and different press personnel.

    This February concludes the first Cycle at Flat6Labs Jeddah, the Global Accelerator Network Member, where it accelerated it’s very first 5 startups who begin their work 4 months ago. This Demo Day event illustrates Flat6Labs Jeddah’s first major step towards fulfilling its mission of adding immense value to the startup ecosystem across the MENA region.

    The Flat6Labs Jeddah Fall 2013 Cycle started on October 20th, 2013 when it welcomed a group of 5 promising new startups who were excited to launch their businesses. This cycle included various types of startups all looking to disrupt the market, operating in diverse industries including education, cosmetics, e-commerce, photography, and more.

    In attendance at the Demo Day were the Flat6Labs Jeddah mentors and management team, governmental representatives, reputable IT figures, press and investors who were keen on witnessing the progress of the very first batch of startups to graduate from Flat6Labs Jeddah. Mr. Mohannad Alnabulsi, Program Manager at Qotuf, was the first to take the floor and welcomed the audience. He was then followed by Dr. Ghassan Alsulaiman, Chairman of Qotuf announcing his heart felt belief behind the importance of entrepreneurship to the Saudi economy, and how Flat6Labs Jeddah was doing just that. He was then followed by His Excellency Dr. Tawfiq Al Rabia announcing the government’s intention to support such initiatives as Flat6Labs Jeddah and how investors play an integral role to the health and growth of SME’s sector in the kingdom.

    Shortly after, each of the 5 startups from the Fall 2013 Cycle presented their companies. The First to take the floor was, Mr. Hashim Geoffrey , CEO of Kanoosh, who presented the idea behind the first lead-generating marketplace platform for the Arabian market. Then came Ms. Nehad Mohamad Sulaimani, CEO and founder of Mother and Child Guide, who presented the online guide that compiles useful and targeted information for mothers and children in the MENA region. Next came Mr. Wesam Yaghmour, CEO of Wade7, who launched a platform that re-writes math lessons as stories and relates them to real-world applications that students use everyday. This was then followed by Ms. Ohoud AlEssawi, COO and Co-Founder of Ohana, who presented Ohana’s concept as a web and mobile platform for beauty services and products and the first all-inclusive online booking tool for spas & beauty salons in the KSA. Finally came Mr. Hussein Attar, CEO of Sawerly, who spoke about his online marketplace to book photographers for any type of event.

    Afterwards, Mr.Qassim Al-Maimani, CEO of Arabian Cement, Mr. Hany Sonbaty Co-founder of Flat6Labs, and Mrs. Tuba Terekli CEO of Qotuf gave closing comments, during which they lauded the teams for all of their outstanding efforts and looked forward to the next cycle and new batch of entrepreneurs.
